From Africa With Love

Back in July I was fortunate to travel to Accra, Ghana. It was a life changing experience. The sights, sounds and people...simply amazing. I was deeply inspired during my time in Ghana, especially by the women. Similar to so many of the women I encounter on a daily basis, these women were strong, smart, enterprising and had a magnetic glow. They epitomized #Blackgirlmagic. I was amazed by their strength.

Like most people when they travel, I brought back a suitcase full of souvenirs and a lifetime of memories. One of the souvenirs that I had made were beautiful personalized bracelets that created by a local woman. The bracelets were engraved with my and the names of family and friends. I had never seen bracelets like these before and I receive so many compliments on mine.

Since leaving Ghana, I have kept in contact with the woman who made the bracelets. In September I officially launched Twi (Twee), which is the exclusive retailer of those bracelets. At Twi, we don’t just sell style, we are a economic and socially conscious business. We are proud that to be able to collaborate with our friends in Ghana and support them economically. Additionally, each month Twi partners with a non-profit, civic or social organization to support their efforts. A portion of every sell from the Shop Twi website is donated to that organization. This month a portion of the proceeds will go our friend Steven James who is one of the participants of the American Cancer Society’s Real Men Wear Pink Campaign. Helping to find a cure for breast cancer is definitely a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

I’m excited about the potential of Twi; the possibility of being able to improve the economic status of  another woman; to support local, national and international organizations and to build a viable business that offers a truly unique product.  I wanted to share the story behind TWI with you for several reasons. The first being that I think the “why” of any business is important is just as important as the product. Also, because I am extremely guilty of not telling others of what I’m working on and giving them the opportunity to support. I do hope that you will take time and shop our website, like our Facebook page or follow us on Instagram (all @shoptwi).  Please let me know what you think of our products, website and mission.

Thank you for your time and your support.

XOXO,

Shameka Reed, Founder
